National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada, (www.nepmcc.ca, P.O. Box 266, Station O). Has a membership of publishers and editors representing dozens of different cultures and languages across Canada, holds meetings throughout the year, and sponsors an Ethnic Press Festival at Ontario Place, usually held on the last Sunday in August. Harbourfront hosts a number of multicultural events throughout the year, including: St. Jean Baptist Day on June 24; World Stage in June, featuring theatre companies from around the world; Freedom Fest in early July; World Of Music arts and Dance festival in August, featuring arts, music, and dance from five continents; International Festival of Authors in October, featuring readings by 40 authors; an international film and dance series; and a multicultural reading series which is held throughout the year. The Multicultural History Society of Ontario (MHSO), (Tel. 416-979-2973, www.mhso.ca, 901 Lawrence Avenue West, Suite 307). Formed in 1976, an important part of the MHSO’s mandate is to enhance both academic and community understanding of multiculturalism. It preserves and records the province’s immigrant and ethnic history through: supporting research programs and the collection of archival and library resources; promoting exhibits of newly gathered heritage materials and records; sponsoring international conferences; and an extensive publishing program. Its research library (which includes collections of ethnic press, manuscripts, and thousands hours of oral testimony in more than 50 languages), and editorial and administrative offices are housed at the Multicultural History Centre on the campus of the University of Toronto. The Community Folk Art Council of Toronto. Ontario Folk Dance Association, (Tel. 416-537-7360, www.ofda.ca). A non-profit organization established to promote international folk dancing.
